NAMAZGA MOSQUE (P.86)
The ancient mosque of Namazga was located to the north-west from Sheikh-zadeh gates. It was built in the 11th–12th centuries and was intended for public praying on Muslim holidays, Kurban and Fitr. In the 15th century, at the time of the Temurids, the mosque was reconstructed. In the 16th-17th cc., Namazga mosque, like the other Temurid buildings, had decayed. In the first half of the 17th c., at the time of the Astarkhanids, Nadir-Divan-beghi initiated the construction of a new mosque instead of the old one. The site for new Namazga mosque was chosen in the southern suburb of Samarkand. The construction was completed in 1630.
