THE NECROPOLIS OF лSEYID OMAR╗ (P.31)

One of Gur-EmirТs mysteries is the western complex, which is often related to Mirzo Ulugbeg. The complex arose around of the tomb of some sheikh, or УSeyid UmarФ. It occupies a separate place in the western niche. Below, the chamber was reconstructed and its western niche was installed additionally. The УblockedФ western arch has remained in the outer space of the mausoleum. It adjoins the big western yard looking towards the sheikhТs tomb. According to the traditional version, УSeyid UmarФ was the fourth son of emir Kulal and, like the father, adhered to Sufi way. We know that he was muhtasib of Shahrisabz, supervising how well the citizens followed the rules and laws of sheriat. Meanwhile, according to the medieval work "Stages of emir KulalТs mystical wayФ, Seyid Umar died in 1400-1401 and was buried in Sukhari kishlak beside the father. The gravestone of УSeyid UmarФ contains the Arabic inscription, which nevertheless gives no information about the person buried under it. At the sides, there is a text including verses 4, 5, 6 from sura XX of Koran, and in the upper part we read: УThere is no god, besides Allah, Mohammed - the messenger of Allah'. 'Merciful gained his throne. At himТЕФ. Further, the text is absent, probably, effaced. We may deal with the tomb of some person, whose name was consciously perished at late Temurids and Shaybanids. That might be connected with political upraise of "naqshbandiyyah", which spiritual concepts, as we know, were oppositional to ideas of Ulugbeg.
